HARASSMENT OF PERUVIAN JOURNALISTS
|
September 25, 2020, Lima, Peru:
Investigative journalist Paola Ugaz and Pedro Salinas are facing legal harassment following their investigation of allegations of sexual abuse by the Sodalicio de Vida Cristiana, an important religious organization in Peru.
Paola, who co-authored a 2015 book that alleged Sodalicio de Vida Cristiana of sexual, physical, and psychological abuse is charged with defamation.

UGANDA’S SEXUAL ABUSE HOTLINE
|
|
The Totya Platform in Uganda, Africa, has a free and anonymous hotline. The toll-free/hotline is the most used mobile platform by clients for getting psychosocial support. So far sixty seven (67) new users of the toll free line have been registered since February 2020. And with the outbreak of the pandemic, more calls have come in by the day than they used to meaning that the violence is on the rise. Forty two (42) of the calls were made by the neighbors of the victims, six (6) from the local leaders and authorities and the rest are from the clients themselves.

PHOTOVOICE PROJECT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF PADUA
|
|
ECA Board Member, Photographer and Community Psychologist,Simone Padovani, is working with the University of Padua in Italy on a year-long research project to assist survivors of clergy sexual abuse.
Interested participants will be asked to collect a series of pictures accompanied by text that tell their daily life as survivors of abuse. In addition, participants will be interviewed and asked to answer a questionnaire that will investigate the quality of life, resilience, etc., according to the indications of the World Health Organization. A photographic report on the life of the survivor of sexual abuse will be made and sent to the research group of the University of Padua for analysis.

Juan Carlos Claret Pool has published his second book on the abuses in the Catholic Church entitled: “Dangerous, the Why of Abuses in the Church”, a detailed analysis from the perspective of law and philosophy about the structural causes that make the Catholic Church a dangerous institution.
