ECA on the Acquittal of Father Sidders about the case of Daniela
La Plata, Argentina, July 10, 2025 — We are called together today by the sad news of the acquittal of Father Sidders.
The brave Daniela, who sadly passed away today from her after-effects, was the main accuser of this pedophile.
In light of this grief, we express our solidarity with Daniela, her family, and friends in the face of so much injustice, especially with her mother, Patricia, and her husband, Santiago.It is necessary to express our strongest condemnation of the acquittal of the accused Sidders, accused of being a serial sexual abuser, who used the passage of time in his defense (the statute of limitations on the crime).
At ECA, we maintain the decision that these crimes are imprescriptible, regardless of where in the world they are committed. Therefore, we firmly maintain that victims must be heard, judicially respected, and sexual offenders and those who concealed their crimes must be punished, since their fundamental human rights were violated in the face of the inaction of the State and the Church throughout this time.
This culture of cover-up and silence in the Catholic Church prevented these crimes from coming to light, failing to protect the fundamental rights of the victims and preserving the image of the institution.
Thus, this culture of cover-up and silence only generates international responsibility before human rights organizations, who set and will continue to set the standards for the protection of children’s rights in the face of the inaction of the State and the Church.
Therefore, believing in children, making them visible, empathizing, and showing solidarity with one another will create a more just society that is attentive to the rights of the most vulnerable.

ECA sobre la absolución del Padre Sidders sobre el caso de Daniela

Nos convoca el día de hoy la lamentable noticia de la sentencia de absolución del cura Sidders.
La valiente Daniela, hoy tristemente fallecida a causa de sus secuelas, fue la denunciante principal de este pederasta.
Ante este dolor expresamos la solidaridad a Daniela, familiares y amigos ante tanta injusticia, especialmente a su mamá Patricia y a su esposo Santiago.
Es necesario expresar nuestro más enérgico repudio a la absolución del imputado Sidders, acusado por ser un cura abusador sexual serial, utilizando al paso del tiempo en su defensa (prescripción del delito).
Desde ECA mantenemos la decisión que estos delitos son imprescriptibles sea cual sea el lugar en el mundo que se realicen.
Por eso, sostenemos firmemente que las víctimas deben ser oidas, judicialmente respetadas, penalizando a los agresores sexuales y encubridores, ya que sus derechos humanos fundamentales fueron violados frente a la inacción del Estado y de la Iglesia durante todo ese tiempo.
Esa cultura de encubrimiento y silencio en la Iglesia Católica impidió que estos crímenes salieran a la luz, desprotegiendo los derechos fundamentales de las víctimas y cuidando la imagen de la institución.
Así, esta cultura de encubrimiento y silencio sólo genera responsabilidad internacional ante los organismos de derechos humanos quienes marcan y seguirán estableciendo los estándares de cuidado de los derechos de la infancia frente a la inacción del Estado y de la Iglesia.
Por eso, creerla a la infancia, visibilizarlo, empatizar, solidarse con el prójimo unos con otros hará una sociedad más justa y atenta a los derechos de los más vulnerables.
