PETER ISELY
Peter Isely is a survivor of childhood sexual assault by a priest. He is a Founding Member of ECA USA and he was a founding member and long time Midwest Director of the US based SNAP (the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests). A graduate of Harvard Divinity School and a trauma specialist, Peter founded the world’s only inpatient unit for clergy abuse survivors. An activist and global spokesperson for survivors, Peter has led efforts to reform criminal and civil statutes on child abuse and has been an expert trial consultant for hundreds of clergy abuse cases. He co-founded with the Rev. James Connell the Survivors and Clergy Leadership Alliance (SCLA), an organization of survivors and clergy partnering to change faith based systems and practices that support or tolerate sexual violence. Peter is a recepient of the Public Service Award of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the Thomas P. Cannon Equal Justice Medal of the Legal Aid Society, and the Rev. Peter J. Gomes Memorial Alumni Honors of Harvard University.
